Looking toward the future of The Woodlands Township, Immediate Past Chairman Nelda Luce Blair has announced her intent to file for re-election to the Township Board of Directors in 2011. “As I served as Township Chairman during the past 3 years, the Township’s evolution and accomplishments have made me very proud,” Blair said. “As a community, we well know the importance of keeping our quality of life high, our taxes low, and the residential/commercial/tourism components balanced.”
First appointed to the former Town Center Improvement District in 1996, then elected in The Woodlands at large in 2008, Blair holds the unique distinction of having extensive governmental experience, as well as business education and know-how. Blair also serves on the University of Houston Board of Regents, and as President of the Conroe ISD Education Foundation. She is a resident of the Village of Grogan’s Mill, a member of the Grogan’s Point Residents Association, the chairman’s appointee to the Board of Directors of The Woodlands Chamber of Commerce, and serves in various capacities in numerous clubs and organizations. For over 25 years, Blair, a Texas Board Certified attorney, has owned and managed The Blair Law Firm, P. C. in The Woodlands.
“My involvements are extensive and diverse,” states Blair, “which allows me an extraordinary perspective from many different citizens. From animal lovers to realtors, from company presidents to parents, I encounter people of all types who love The Woodlands like I do. I hear views and ideas in great variety, all of which provide me with direction and innovative ideas for our community.”
Nelda Blair graduated from Conroe High School, Baylor University and the University of Houston Law Center. She has been an integral part of the Houston regional community, as current Chairman of The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau, a Center for Houston’s Future Advisory Board member, and a Chancellor’s Advisory Board member for the Lone Star College System. Blair was named a “Hometown Hero” of The Woodlands, as well as one of “Houston’s 50 Most Influential Women of 2009” by Houston Woman magazine, and as a “Citizen of the Year 2009” by the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber. In 2008, Governor Rick Perry appointed Nelda Luce Blair to the University of Houston System Board of Regents for a six-year term. She and her husband, retired attorney Jim Blair, are long-time active members of First Baptist Church of The Woodlands.
Blair summarizes: “Prospects for the Township are bright – yet they require attention to detail and dedicated effort to bring them to realization. I will continue to provide that type of leadership, and I look forward to enhancing the glow of our future.”
